Tips for Lengthening the Life of Your Lawn Mower
A mower can be a big investment and you want to get your money’s worth. To lengthen the life of your lawn mower you can follow some of our easy tips below! If you’re needing more serious repairs or are looking for replacement parts, we encourage you to visit our service centers at either of our locations in Richmond and Sandusky, Michigan
Clean After Use
The easiest way to lengthen the life of your mower is to clean it after every use. Don’t worry, it’s an easy job! Simply wipe down, or gently run the hose over the underside of the mower. Don’t spray the water directly into the mower. Allow it to simply run down the sides till all the grass and debris are washed away. Afterward, you can leave it in the sun to dry before placing it in storage.
Blade Care
Mowing with a dull blade puts a lot of wear on your mower. To avoid this extra wear and tear you can easily sharpen the blade at home every month or so (although this depends on how often you use your mower). Or, if you don't feel like doing it yourself, you can always visit the nearest lawn mower store and have them do it for you. This typically costs very little and will save you quite a bit of money on replacement parts over time.
Check Oil
Just like a car, the more you use your mower the sooner you will need to change its oil. Before each use, be sure to pull the dipstick out and give it a quick once-over. If oil levels are low be sure to top off your machine before using it. If your oil is looking dark and murky it may be time to give it a change.
As you can see, it’s super easy to keep your mower running for years to come! However, if your lawn mower is on its last leg feel free to take a look at our inventory here at Ball Equipment. We proudly serve the city of Detroit and have dealership and manufacturing specials year-round.
